I say one of two things to those who keep bringing this up, Get over it. Or, let bygones be bygones. (But if you’re a Vet and still dealing with it, I recommend counseling — I did — and maybe think about going back to visit.) I’m a three Vietnam tour veteran who just returned ten days ago from spending two and a half weeks visiting Hanoi, Danang, Sapa, Hoi An, and Ho Chi Minh City and a variety of smaller villages. Here’s what I experienced. The Vietnamese we met were a wonderful, warm, friendly people who seemed to genuinely care and, even though I look the Vote Blue Jays move the needle shirt But I will love this age of a person who could well have been part of the American troops, I NEVER felt the slightest sense that anyone even considered that, much less had any reservations about me. As I told my wife when I returned, I went to Vietnam to hopefully leave some very troubling mental images and replace them with a new selection of good images.
